In Tokyo, Japan, Meibea Co.,Ltd., announced that its steel ball has been awarded the world record for smallest commercial steel ball bearing, with an external diameter of only 1.4978 mm as certified by representatives from the world records LTD.
Meibea has been trying to demonstrate its ability to produce the smallest volume of bearings. In 2009, it successfully broke the barrier of 2mm steel ball bearing, paving the way for the subminiature ball bearing.
Yuko koyama at the karuizawa plant said: "the steel ball bearings with an outside diameter of 1.5 mm were able to break the record thanks to the efforts of our team throughout the production process. I am really happy, the bearings are often overlooked. We have made bold attempts to make the bearing size small and can bring it to market. It made me realize that everything pays off and nothing is impossible.
